Luke Nathaniel Slater is a Perth, Western Australia born and raised musician who credits his time at boarding school for the development of his talent. While there he watched a fellow student play the guitar and immediately took interest in the craft, asking the student to teach him a few chords. After receiving a guitar for his birthday, his passion grew, and from there he taught himself to play both drums and the piano.
Slater's unique folk electronic sound stems from a love of the music of Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett, Sonic Youth, Radiohead, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, REM, and Elliott Smith. A multi-track recording process gives his sound a slight twist, allowing him to combine rich vocals with sparse instrumentals.
As half of the duo Sands, he performed alongside Alex Arpino who went on to front the Perth outfit The Autumn Isles. Together they released an EP entitled 'The Space Between Now and Then' and supported internationally acclaimed Perth act The Sleepy Jackson.
Currently focusing on his solo career, Slater is hoping to release an LP very soon.
